I may have to go without internet for a month at the most and I'm not sure if I can handle that. So much of what I do is online and it's become a major part of my life. Any ideas how how to pass the time without internet?
Games! When I didn't have the internet for whatever reason, I played some games on the computer that I'd either already downloaded or came pre-installed. I don't usually buy a game CD since they take up space once you've installed them game... You could also read books from the library. Most libraries now also have the internet so you could go there to check your email & such. There is usually a limit on the time though, I think our library limits you to 2 hours online per day.
Try to do something interesting that may keep you busy and forget about the internet for a month. Maybe you can go to the beach with friends and party all night or camp outdoors for a week or two.
I would really miss the internet also. I agree with playing games on the computer and reading books. All good things. Do you have a cell phone that you can get email and internet on?
I used to read a lot when I was younger and we haven't had internet connection at home yet. Now I spend most of my spare time being online. So, reading books is my first alternative to being online.
I think we should all take intentional technology holidays just to remind ourselves that these things are luxuries and not necessities.
Reading was the first thing that came to my mind. I think it's kind of funny that among Phoenyxstarr's ideas is one that puts you right back online... I don't disagree...
Whenever we go abroad , I think "Oh no , no computer for 2 weeks - how will I cope " but I don't actually miss it that much. The minute I'm back at home however , it goes straight back on ....
I would hate to go without my internet for a whole month. I don't know what I would do. I do a lot of reading now, but I might read even more. I would probably pick up the phone and talk to my friends more as well.
Meeting other people can get your mind off the internet and improve your ability to socialize with others face-to-face.
