Do you encourage your kids to play school sports? I think school sports are a great way to improve "teamwork" and your ability to work with a team. I can't stress that enough these days. With every job I have worked there were teams that I had to be on. My daughter plays a lot of school sports and summer sports too.
I will encourage my kids to participate, but not force them to. I think it does instill good qualities in children.
There are a lot of sports but it's getting tougher with school budget cuts and the like. Participating is often a healthy thing to do. No football, though; that's out.
Football does scare me. I have known quite a few kids getting some serious injuries while playing football in high school.
I don't have kids but I think school sports can play an important role. I was more into the community based sports when I was a kid. I think that schools should maintain significant sports programs as well as music programs.
The problem is that their's too much emphasis on winning when it comes to elementary and high school sports. Back in my high school days, I played for a Babe Ruth baseball team. We usually lost. And although I still enjoyed playing for the most part, I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't been so caught up with the fact that we rarely won games. And part of why I wanted to win so much is because the parents stressed winning way too much. It's a little different in High School Varsity since those students aren't playing for fun. They're trying to win state championships. But at the Babe Ruth level, teenagers should mostly play to enjoy themselves instead of caring too much about winning games.
